The Meeting of APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade falls at a particularly crucial point tor the WTO Doha Round negotiations. An ambitious and balanced agreement that delivers real commercial gains across agriculture, non-agricultural market access, services and the rest of negotiation issues would provide a much needed boost to a faltering global economy.
This meeting is an opportunity to review the work and agree on key priorities for regional economic integration in 2008. Results from the MRT will contribute to the report to APEC Economic Leaders in November on the steps taken to promote regional economic integration including examining the options and long-term prospects tor a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) through a range of practical and incremental steps. |

Quick and transparent administrative procedures as well as a streamlined and effective administration serve as preconditions for the prevention of and fight against corruption. Anti-corruption, in turn, helps foster the administrative reform efforts which include ensuring transparency in administrative activities and the tightening of responsibilities of public officials.
The principal purpose of the two-day symposium is to create a forum for member economies (1) to exchange views and make it clear on how anti-corruption and administrative reform interact; and (2) to share information and practical experiences as well as to discuss on this matter, there from drawing out the best solutions for effectively promoting this interactive linkage. |

In recent years, APEC has given emphasis and priority to address the increasing challenge of enhancing supply chain security. Given the prevailing global security climate and the need to ensure continued growth, trade, facilitation and the development of the world economy, the security of the supply chain is critical.
The objective of workshop is to bring together experts from the public and private sector to share their views on the importance of trade recovery and best practices on the security of the global supply chain and trade facilitation. It aims to raise the awareness and understanding of the APEC TRP Guidelines amongst public and private enterprises of APEC economies. It also aims to identify possible ways to adopt the TRP so as to protect the flow of international trade in the event of a disruption to the supply chain arising from a major terrorist attack. |

This will be the first APEC ministerial meeting wholly dedicated to structural reform, highlighting the new emphasis on structural reform in APEC. A greater understanding of the importance of domestic structural reforms in supporting productivity growth and economic prosperity, led to a broadening of the APEC agenda to include structural reform.
The Ministerial Meeting will provide ministers from APEC economies, who have tackled major structural reforms, with the opportunity to share experiences and engage on these important issues. |
