Current Activities
When they met in Arequipa in June 2008, Peru APEC Ministers Responsible for
Trade endorsed the Investment Facilitation Action Plan for 2008-2010. The
Investment Experts' Group is expected to play an important role in implementing
the Action Plan.
- The 2nd Workshop on International Investment Agreements for APEC member
economies will take place in October, 2008 in Washington, D.C. to promote
familiarity among APEC member economies focusing on investor-state
arbitration under the new international investment agreements.
- The APEC-UNCTAD Joint Capacity Building Project for Addressing Knowledge
Gaps in the Use of Foreign Direct Investment (Stage 1 and 2) will select
four APEC member economies as examples for best practices and case studies
in four topics areas (i.e., electricity, roads, extractive industries and
SMEs). It will be finalized and published by June 2009.
- Building upon the outcome of its Phase 1 study, the Study of the Core
Elements in Existing RTAs/FTAs and BITs (Phase 2) will expand its coverage
and analysis.
- Ease of Doing Business: Investment at the Sub-National Level to Promote
Domestic Economic Integration (Phase I) will complete three case studies at
the sub-national level of successful efforts to overcome behind-the-border
barriers to investment, drawing on the World Bank's expertise in using its
Ease of Doing Business indicators as a diagnostic tool.
